Intro[]
Religion makes a big deal in Calradia. The kingdoms of Swadia, Vaegir, Rhodoks,Agonic Order,Merchant Republic of Zendar,Papal State,Nordic Union and Mithridian Empire follow the words of Christ, Son of God, fully divine and fully human and savior of humanity as prophesied in the Old Testament. The Sarranids listen to the Prophet, who was the last He sent. They believe their Faith is the complete and universal version of a primordial Faith that was revealed at many times and places before. The Nords have their own Pagan gods like the hammer-wielding, humanity-protecting god Thor, who unrelentingly pursues his foes; the one-eyed or raven-flanked god Odin, who craftily pursues knowledge throughout the worlds and bestowed among humanity the runic alphabet. Since the Khanate has invaded Calradia, few centuries back, they have introduced Tengriism. This is not one single faith but a name for a religion characterized by features of shamanism, animism, totemism, both polytheism and monotheism, and ancestor worship. Judaism, the oldest Faith of all, is not an official religion endorsed by any nation. Since the Calradic Empire has burned down their Grand Temple a very long time ago, they spread out over Calradia.
Overview[]
Nova Aetas offers 5 main religions to follow (Norse Paganism, Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Tengriism) as well as the option choose Atheism. You can choose a branch such as Calvinism or have Odin as patron god for Norse followers. The reason why real-life religions are used lies in the fact that they have a millennia old spirit which add to immersion. Plus a fictional belief would ultimately be based on a real belief. Initial religion / branch is chosen during character creation.
In-Game impact[]
Religion is measured by the in-game stat Piety, which increases your Charisma attribute, grants gold, experience and influence points.
Buying goods or items in towns that do not share your religion gives a +50% price penalty.
Conversion[]
Converting to another religion costs 250 Renown and requires talking to a priest.
Priests[]
Priests can be accessed at towns via visiting a church, mosque, synagogue, shrine or temple. Talking to a priest allows you to convert to a religion, pray, and make donations.
Donations
Amount (Florins) | Piety Gained |
---|---|
1,000 | 1 |
2,500 | Unknown |
5,000 | 5 |
10,000 | 10 |
20,000 | 20 |

Religious Uniformity[]
Conquering towns with a different belief will cause religious uniformity to become 25%, giving you only 25% of all income. You can however change the religion once you have 85% religious uniformity.
Notes[]
AI kings, lords, princesses and pretenders have religion too. This may damage relations upon meeting a lord of different religion.
Holy artifacts increase Piety.
Religious Branches[]
Religious branches are a work-in-progress and are currently only for immersion.
